Abstract

There is a substantial body of literature on the use of Arts Informed Inquiry as an educational research methodology. Whilst this may demonstrate the value of innovative and aesthetic modes of inquiry to collect and analyse data there is still a need to offer new understandings about its transformative benefits in educational research. This presentation explains the processes behind two artistic methods of data collection and analysis to understand the impact of creative writing workshops on primary school students’ learning. It also demonstrates the transformative potential and educative possibilities that Arts Informed Inquiry provided for not only those who were integral to the research but also for the researcher as a practising primary school teacher. Knowledge of the broader benefits that Arts Informed Inquiry can have on educational practice reinforces its position in research.
