The quality of social relations in the context of data collection can be regarded as an important condition of gaining social scientific knowledge. To know about its implications, we carefully have to analyze factors which are relevant for the research process and shape the outcomes of research. In order to realize such an analysis, we actually relate in this contribution to a study on children’s delinquent behaviour and its familial treatment, which in turn is based on qualitative interviews with both, the children who conducted delinquent acts, and their parents. This study allows the reconstruction of implications of different forms of access to interviewees, the interests of these interview partners as well as the development of interview-bonding.
The presentation sketched in this abstract will show results concerning access to interviewees, interests of the research partners at the beginning of the research process, development of interview-bonding in the course of the interviews and interrelations between these aspects. Hereby, it can be shown that interview-bonding interrelates not only with the quality of the interview per se, but even more so with the quality of the output gained through processing the interview. Furthermore, it becomes clear that types of interview-bonding interrelate with types of familial treatment of delinquency, on which said study focused mainly. Finally, these results are discussed and some thoughts will be sketched out concerning a more detailed evaluation of interactive processes related to interviews and some of their consequences.
