Abstract
Elzinga and Liefbroer (2007) proposed an index of turbulence, which allows to capture trajectory characterics of sequences into one single quantitative measure. Elzinga (2010) renamed this index as index of sequence complexity, which is a composite measure that accounts for the number of distinct subsequences of a sequence and the variance of the consecutive times spent in the distinct states. Recently, Gabadinho et al.(2010) introduced another complexity index as a composite measure that combines the number of transitions in the sequence with the longitudinal entropy. Using data from the German Time Use Survey and from the Polish Time Use Survey we want to examine the substantive differences of these two measures, by using them as predictors in a multivariate model of subjective well-being.
