Abstract
Collaboration between partners is an evident multi causal platform for any social research directed towards the phenomenon of human beings and especially when such research is asked for and relates to societal expectations of children and their families. So, one of the ways of experiencing partnership in social research is the evaluation of social phenomenae as the result of the implemented social project.
During 2007-2010 we have been involved in and managing several series of investigations into family life in the municipality of Archangelsk in families with children with special needs and socioeconomic problems. The basics of the investigations have been participatory interviews and a study approach on the behalf of the social rehabilitation centers of the municipality as well as the Department of Social work at the university NArFU in Archangelsk.
The philosophy of the undertaken social research is based on eco-cultural pre-understandings of a recognizable social context by belonging to the people of the society we investigated: authorities, administrators, specialists, parents and the project’s target group the children themselves. Comparative data were collected through a quantitative and qualitative research process from different interviews on different levels. The quantitative part of the model has been worked out through statistical information from official sources: governmental, regional and service reports. The qualitative model of the evaluation process has been identified mainly as a participatory study model with multistep interviews as the main tool.
Through the collaboration in a participatory study model of social research, unique data has been collected about the geographic area which has been uninvestigated in such studies before. The data will be correlated with a larger ongoing project where investigations will be done in comparative studies between the countries Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova. The main context in these studies will be families living in deprivation and poverty and the results of the studies will be used to develop tools for each participating country to manage development of welfare tools.
