Call for Papers

The call for abstracts of papers and/or full papers is now open (Wednesday September 23, 2015) and will close on Friday March 4, 2016. Abstract acceptance notification will be by Thursday March 24, 2016. Full paper acceptance/notification will be by Friday April 29, 2016 after a peer review process.

There will be two types of papers:

  1. Work in progress papers where an abstract is reviewed (abstract in the conference proceedings). Abstracts should be submitted even if a full paper is also submitted since abstracts will be reviewed and notifications sent first.
  2. Full paper where the full paper is blind peer reviewed (full paper published in the final conference proceedings).

Please note you are not required to submit a full paper for this conference.  This is optional.

Papers on all aspects of social science methodology are welcome. The themes and specific sessions have been developed in response to proposals from the social science community to convene sessions. The sessions that are currently listed are available here

Abstracts will only be accepted through the online submission form.

Abstracts should be no longer than 400 words.

To submit an abstract for consideration for the conference, you will need:

  • a user account for this website. If you have not created an account you can do so by following the “Create new account” link

  • select a session to which you want to submit your abstract. To do this you can review the sessions by following the “Tracks and sessions” link. If you do not find a session for your submission select the session called “Other”.

Then begin by clicking on “STEP ONE OF THE SUBMISSION PROCESS” below.

Author Guidelines

Published conference papers:

Accepted abstracts will appear in the conference proceedings. If you wish to publish a full paper in the proceedings, manuscripts must be submitted by Friday March 4, 2016 and authors must have paid their registration fee by March 24, 2016. Manuscripts must conform to the following formatting and style guide.

Formatting and style:
  • Paragraphs should use 1.5 spacing throughout, with 2.5cm page margins;
  • Main sub-headings should be typed with initial capitals, in bold, aligned  against the left margin. Minor sub-headings should be treated in the same way and italicised. No further levels of headings should be used.

  • All illustrations, tables and figures are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.

  • Type styles should be 12-point font, avoiding over-use of italics, boldface or capitals.

  • Acknowledgements should be given under a final sub-heading immediately preceding the References.

  • Endnotes should be used only in exceptional circumstances. Instead, place explanatory notes parenthetically in the text if required.

  • References should be used sparingly, and should follow the author-date Harvard system.

  • 4000 word limit

Please note: Full papers are not required for the conference but are optional. If a full paper is not submitted for review then the accepted/reviewed abstract will be printed in the conference proceedings. If a full paper is received and accepted after review then the full paper will be printed in the conference proceedings.

Submissions for this conference were closed on 2016-03-04.
